The main highlights of the year are the Newark & Nottinghamshire Show held in May, this gives members the opportunity to enter competitions, exhibits and showcase Young Farmers to the public. The County Rally held in June allows members to compete in fun activities on the day including the infamous water race, followed by a party in the evening.
Members also have the opportunity to represent the club at the Area Competitions Weekend held in Skegness, where members from across the East Midlands battle it out to reach the National Finals. Other highlights of the Year include the Autumn Dance and County Ball; the Mr YFC, Miss YFC and Ambassador of the Year winners are revealed at these dances.
Fundraising is an important aspect within Young Farmers and Southwell have always supported worthy causes. Last year we held a duck race and raised £1200, which was split between two charities:
Help for Heroes – raising money to support members of
the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service
of their country. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
Rainbows Children’s Hospice – helping to meet the needs
of children and young people in the East Midlands who are affected by life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. www.rainbows.co.uk
