Newark and Notts Show, 14th-15th May

SOUTHWELL YOUNG FARMERS HAVE EXCELLED AT THIS YEAR'S NEWARK AND NOTTS SHOW.

The club took home six trophies including the coveted 'Club of the Year' trophy. Natasha Hoggard was also awarded the 'member's member' trophy - an award voted for by members from across the county. Evie Hoggard won the junior butchers lamb stock-judging and Liz Temporal won the senior beef stock-judging. Chris Brown also won the Mick Saxby trophy for the second year running, gaining the most points in all stock-judging competitions. The club also won the trophy for the club exhibit.

Southwell just missed out on the overall club exhibit trophy and overall stock-judging trophy, finishing second to Tuxford on both occasions.

Congratulations to the Young Farmers quiz team who beat NFU members in the annual quiz for the second year running. Both teams had to answer several questions and take part in an exciting round of 'feel the object'. The Young Farmers team was Tom Arnold and Tom Haines from Collingham, Chris and Katy Bevans from Lowdham, Natasha Hoggard from Southwell, Jem Hill and Jo Wyles from Tuxford and Lucy Moore from Worksop.

Young Farmers also beat off stiff competition from Derbyshire in the annual East Midlands Area Public Speaking compeition. The winning Nottinghamshire team were all from Southwell:
Chris Brown - chairman, Ibby Brown - speaker and Evie Hoggard - vote of thanks. Notts also finished third with Sam Shaw from Papplewick receving high marks from the judges, James Ashworth - chairman and Rebecca Welton - vote of thanks also scored highly.

The last time Notts won this competition was in 1994 - a team that included the current M.P for Sherwood, Mark Spencer. So, who knows what awaits today's current Young Farmers, Westminster could be calling.
