Southwell YFC was established in 1948 and over the years, several members have represented the club at county and national level. We also have a long history of successful trophy winners in various competitions.
In the late 70's and early 80's, Southwell was one of the biggest clubs in the county. Much of there success was down to the clubs reputation for entering competitions. In 1980 they regained for the fourth year running the Drama trophy and went on to represent Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands round, pictured below is the cast, also pictured is the cast from the 1978 performance 'A Fishy Business'

1981 cast
1981 was another successful year for Southwell. The intermediate brainstrust team won the county competition and finished second in the East Midlands Area round. They also won the county entertainments competition held at Newark Palace Theatre
The Mr and Miss YFC title is given to outstanding individuals who have shown commitment and dedication to Young Farmers throughout the year. Southwell have had several successes over the years but as yet no member has been awarded the Mr YFC competition.

The trophy presented today is called the 'Catherine Banks' trophy to recognised the success of Southwell's very own national winner.
Southwell Young Farmers also have the honour of being the first club to enter a man in the Miss Young Farmer competition.

David Brown enters for Southwell YFC. This pioneering act of defiance must have had some impact, in 1987 the first Mr YFC competition took place. Clearly he was ahead of his time.
